Check Out What Our Southern Lakes Heliski Guides Are Up To In Antarctica!
June 27, 2017
Senior Southern Lakes Heliski Guides Tarn Pilkington and Phil Penny guide climbing and ski touring on the Antarctic Peninsula with Aurora Expeditions every year. This past Summer Tarn guided climbers on an 11-day expedition ex-Argentina and Phil spent three weeks visiting both the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia.
This year Aurora Expeditions has introduced Ski Touring and Snow Shoeing. It offers keen adventurers the chance to enjoy some of the world’s most incredible slopes and share a unique adventure in a beautiful remote destination.
Tarn has been to the Peninsula over ten times and says it is “ one of the best places on earth to experience ski touring. Where else can you climb a small peak and ski down, your view overlooks a bay full of icebergs and breaching whales, as you arrive at the bottom a colony of penguins is there to greet you. It’s fantastic.”
Tarn points out that you do not need to have previous experience to join an Antarctic ski touring, climbing or snowshoeing adventure. He says that “the guides are there to teach you how to use the equipment and most people can be underway in an hour on ski touring or snowshoeing gear.” All you need is to be of reasonable fitness and have skied before.
This 2017/2018 Summer they will be down there again leading Ski Touring trips and Southern Lakes Heliski invites you to join them. For more information contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org and Tarn and Phil will be happy to answer your questions or send you further information.
Tarn has written an article for the next NZ Adventure Magazine which will be coming out July 2017.
