July 2016 – The Snow Arrived!!
July 21, 2016
“Patience is a virtue”, and that would undoubtedly be the saying that summarises July so far.
Warm temperatures pushed the snow off to Australia and stalled the heliski season for Southern Lakes Heliski until mid July. Although we could have flown out into those beautiful mountains sooner, we felt that the snow base was a little thin and the quality of snow wasn’t quite up to standard for our keen heliskiers.
The last storm brought about 30-55cms of dry powder into our extensive backcountry around Queenstown and Wanaka, which allowed us to get the helicopter rotors going for the 16th July. It was a perfect day to get our clients out heli skiing and heli boarding with blue skies, fresh powder and happy faces.
More snow is expected over the next week set to cover our expansive heli ski terrain over the next week which will increase the snow base and set us up for a fantastic heliski season ahead. If you want to keep an eye on the weather an easy site to check is:

So being patient pays off, the heliski season in Queenstown and Wanaka has kicked off and we are amped to get people up into the Southern Alps of NZ and showcase our epic scenery, pristine snow and professionalism. See you up there!
