She’s Back! Heli-boarding with Olympian Stephanie Prem!
August 28, 2017
Last week we had the pleasure of former Australian Winter Olympian Stephanie Prem, and her family, join us for a few days in the backcountry. She timed it well with a week of perfect powder conditions accompanied by bluebird skies.
Stephanie is a special lady, in 2010 she broke her back attempting an 18-metre snowboard jump at the World Cup Finals in Italy. Her injury left her with fractured vertebrae, compressed discs, a dislocated hip, broken ribs and a torn hamstring and pelvis. Her professional snowboard career came to an abrupt halt while she struggled to come to terms with the fact she would never compete again, possibly never snowboard, and was in constant pain.
After intensive rehab involving traditional and alternative methods, she discovered Pilates. It was with this she discovered a world without pain and one that strengthened her mentally and physically to the point where she is now snowboarding again and has become a fitness expert who owns a studio which was ranked in the top 5 for Yoga/Pilates in Melbourne.
Stephanie is a refreshing, genuine and educated. She has an infectious attitude to life which made heli-boarding with her heaps of fun. Her guide Jim Young now considers her and her family to be friends and so did everyone who went heliboarding with her. Her love for snowboarding and the mountains was evident on the smile on her face and if you check her out on Instagram you’ll also see it in her words and pictures.
It was awesome enjoying Steph’s ambitious drive for life and watching her shredding the backcountry. We look forward to having her back heliboarding with us in New Zealand in the near future!
